Raptors in the Sky

What my haikubox is teaching me.

Linda's Journal: Raptors in the Sky

When Dad gave me the haikubox, I thought it was just another gadget. But then I started checking the reports, and guess what showed up? Bald Eagles. Peregrine Falcons. I thought they only lived in the wild places you see on nature shows. Turns out, they fly over my own backyard.

I looked it up. These birds almost disappeared because of a pesticide called DDT. It messed up their eggs, made the shells too thin. People campaigned, laws changed, and DDT was banned. Slowly, the birds came back. The Bald Eagle was even removed from Ontario's Species at Risk list. That’s huge.

So when the haikubox says an eagle or falcon flew by, it’s not just some random bird fact. It means my little swamp is part of a much bigger win for nature. Like proof that decades of work and arguing and caring actually mattered. That’s kind of amazing. And maybe it means I should start caring, too.
