Free Adult Reading Lessons / English
with Sound/Word/Phonics Interactive Drills
Printed Drill Guides and Workbooks
Summary of Adult Literacy Lessons
Our 56 guided reading lessons are designed specifically for adult learners, covering foundational English sounds through to complex literary analysis. Both offline printed material and online interactive lessons are available.
On most pages, learners can double click any word to open an external dictionary in another tab. Learners may also select text, then ALT+Rclick to read aloud using voice synthesizer.
This page provides a complete index of printable workbooks, interactive lessons, and coaching materials for all 56 reading drills. Use what helps. Leave what doesn’t.
Click an icon to see the tool in use for reading lesson 1:
A link to a printed teacher's guide and the ability to generated a new pdf.
A link to a learner's offline workbook and the ability to generated a new pdf, selecting random new exercises and read aloud sentences.
The ability to generate flashcards (pdf) for the lesson word set.
Simply attached the AI 'Raw' to 'Refined' Instructions Guide (or your own instructions), a drill teacher's guide, and corresponding learner's workbook to an AI prompt and the AI module can produce a detail lesson plan for you and your learner.
Sample 45 Minute lesson plans produced for drills 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7
Each drill includes additional elements such as spelling rules, prefixes, suffixes, grammar notes, poems, and theme-based exploration. (See below.) Previews are included in the generated workbooks. Coaches may choose to incorporate any of these into the lesson depending on time, learner goals, and interest. Instruct the AI module to add additional sections for whichever elements you want to cover — in the same lesson or an additional lesson.
Examples - Additional Lessons: Drill 1 Address Lesson or Drill 6 Canadian Currency
A mini dictionary for the lesson that allows the learner to explore pronunciation —including sounding out word using IPA symbols, meaning and related words without leaving the site. Optionally, learners can click and open an external dictionary in a new tab to explore a term in more depth.
When the lesson dashboard opens, the first thing learners see is a list of new words to learn, grouped by english sounds. In early drills, the learner can view a pictorial of the word, and see the word in all lowercase, all uppercase or first letter capitalized. Click the word to hear it pronounced.
-
Each lesson comes with a number of interactive matching exercises: match sound to word, match image to word, match word with rhyme, match definition to word.
Read-aloud sentences, of varying reading levels, are provided for each word in the lesson word set. Coaches can adjust difficulty levels in offline sessions.
Optional read-aloud sentences are provided for the topic/theme of each lesson. Often these sentences are more advanced and coaches should adjust for individual learners. A learner can just listen and learn something about the topic.
Optional Lesson Topics (Also refer to front page table. Hover mouse over drill for dropdown topic summary.)
Each drill is a flexible learning module.
You can move quickly or take your time. One drill may support a day, a week, or more of learning. The pace and coverage are up to you and your learner—use what helps.
These lessons are examples. They are not meant to be followed exactly.
You can adapt, skip, repeat, or combine activities based on your learner.
