How to Stand Out in a Crowd!

building a newsletter
The Newsletter article at WikiHow.com external link lists some excellent suggestions for writing a good newsletter. I won't reinvent the wheel here (so go read the article), but I did summarize it below. Read my newsletter for this site.

  1. Make sure the title, often an email subject line, grabs the reader's attention.
  2. Plan the newsletter by outlining your main points.
  3. Provide authoritative information.
  4. Limit promotional material.
  5. End with a call to action.
  6. Keep the tone conversational.
  7. Make it personal.
  8. Use a visually appealing format.
  9. Make it easy to read.
  10. Incorporate images.
  11. Don't forget to proofread.

Don't reinvent the wheel. If you need to create a newsletter or flyer for your small business, take advantage of free templates available for download or purchase one from a graphics site. Using a template saves time and gives your document a professional look.

Most professional writing applications, like Adobe or MS Word, provide free templates for newsletters. Many printers, such as Brother or HP, come with creative software tools for producing enhanced photographs, letters, and newsletters. Even paper manufacturers, such as Avery, provide such tools. There are so many good and useful tools out there...

Go do a little research and find a free online template. Follow instructions and produce a sample, even if fictional, newsletter. Here are some links to help you get started:

With many of the free templates, you receive both the template and guidance on how to fill it out. These templates make it easy to produce a good newsletter and may be the reason we all receive so many of them.
