Material for Optional Add-on Lessons

The purpose of the prefix and suffix section is to help learners realize that larger words are most often formed/extended from smaller ones using prefixes, suffixes. Optionally introduce prefix and suffix extensions.

There are only 31 spelling rules and adult learners can understand why a rule is needed, when explained. Explore and share why a rule or convention is needed.

The Grammar section covers lessons in grammar, punctuation, syntax and, in later drills, may include instructions about writing and composition.

The composing section may include a piece composed by me for this site, or instructions or exercises for the learner about composing. This is an optional 'how to' section for more advanced learners. Use what seems fitting.

Each drill provides two sets of read aloud sentences varying in complexity. One set demonstrates how drill words can be used in a sentence. At the same time, grammar rules are demonstrated. The second set of sentences relates to the drill theme. The learner can use audio functions to listen and repeat these sentences alone or with a coach. See sample sentences below.

Final Note:

Choose the topics you want to cover or swap in new topics. You can use an AI assistant, such as ChatGPT, to provide you a sample lesson plan for any topic. In this way, you can quickly customize a lesson plan for your learner. See the examples below.

ChatGPT generated a lesson plan based on the topics in drill 1: the word set, example of a prefix and suffix, a spelling rule, capitalizing etc. I took the response and created a teacher's guide with materials from it. Review the ChatGPT lesson plan and the teacher's guide.
